TThe 4th International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA 2025) opened on 22 October 2025, at the Durban International Convention Center in South Africa, launching a four-day convening under the theme: “Moving Towards Self-Reliance to Achieve Universal Health Coverage and Health Security in Africa.”

The conference that spotlights African-led innovations, policy solutions, and research aimed at building resilient, self-reliant health care systems, tailored to the needs of citizens across the continent, featured several panels including one on: Mpox Research R&D 2.0 and reflections on the need for Collaborative Clinical and One Health Research as a basis for future outbreaks: Lessons learn from Regional Research network- ICER-East Africa, WAC-CREP– West Africa, Panther-Central Africa.

It was hosted by eminent scientists and researchers including Prof. Seydou Doumbia, Chairman of West African Consortium for Clinical Research on Epidemics Pathogen(WACCREP), Honorary Dean of School of Medicine of Bamako, Mali, and Director of the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC).

The annual International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) is organized by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and provides a unique African-led platform for leaders across the continent to reflect on lessons learned in health and science and to share innovative and practical evidence-based public health solutions to champion Africa’s health challenges.

CPHIA aims to engage this diverse gathering to support building strong, resilient and equitable health systems, preparing Africa for the next pandemic and accelerating the local manufacturing of vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics in Africa.
